Mosquitoes
can spread disease and are therefore a considerable public heath hazard.
They are the only cause of Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, Filariassi,
Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Encephalitis.
Mosquitoes fly long distances in search of animal or
human blood. Female adults need the blood to produce fertile eggs, which
she lays on or near stagnant water. Male mosquitoes, however, feed almost
exclusively on honeydew. Any homeowner looking to reduce the number of mosquitoes
in their area should remove all sources of stagnant water. Common places
where stagnant water is found are buckets, bird baths, gutters, and old
tires. Larvacide should be applied to any large area of stagnant water.
